Still A taboo!!! #Mental Health
Updated: Mar 19, 2019
Why we cannot accept mental disorders while we have no issues to accept the physical diseases. Mental health is becoming a concern worldwide. Every home has a case of a mentally ill person.
Awareness has to be increased to deal with such kind of cases and the environment at home has to be very supportive. Sympathy doesn't work, compassion and acceptance are needed. Medical science so far succeeded to give symptomatic relief but not cure. #Psychosomatic drugs come with heavy side effects and doses are being altered from time to time as the body starts resisting these medications after prolonged use. If one stays in this state for a long time it will be difficult to bring back in the state of normalcy.
While #healing ill mental health cases, recently observing the number of children with mental disorders are increasing and this situation is alarming.
When I discuss with parents they say "we don't put any pressure to perform or to standout extraordinary". Children are developing high expectations from self and we can't deny the role of parents, teachers, educational institutions, contributing like slow poison. This is getting transferred in DNA. Everyone wants to be extraordinary. Everyone is unique in their own way but this need to be extraordinary is killing the essence of life and children are getting trapped in a vicious cycle of the endless desire of being extraordinary. This situation is getting worst when they experience failure, rejection, humiliation in their journey. They are not ready to come down from the illusionary images of extraordinary. They just dream about it but no energy to make it real. This is how they start experiencing a state of hopelessness and slowly slip into depression, Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder. Though all these are glorified terminologies, in reality, this is just a state of imbalance.
It is true that India is going through a transition phase where we are slowly coming out of the shades of parents, shades of the joint family, shades of society to
search our own identity, so the chaos is expected. We are trying to come out of the state of suppression where Identity crisis is huge. Every change comes with some pros and cons but with awareness, we can lessen the damage and can guide our children with a lot of clarity. To guide them first we need to get our own clarity.
We can categorize the cases as per the symptoms and severity of the situation:
Group I: Empowering people by educating them about Mental Health. This is a preventive method to lead a healthy and happy life. This group includes those who want to have a healthy attitude towards life.
Group II: People start showing the symptoms of depression, anger disorder, aloofness, socially disconnect. On the onset of symptoms, we can offer support with all compassion and reaching out any alternative way of dealing with the situation.
Group III: These are the serious cases where medical intervention is needed along with an alternative way of healing, coaching.
So awareness and acceptance to the state can bring quick relief to the person. Whenever you witness a family member or loved one in a state of depression, mood swings, abnormal behavior, sulking state, offer help. Immediate #coaching, #healing, breathing, physical activities can bring back that person soon to the state of awareness. Pay attention to mental health and get desired good health as a byproduct.
